Questions about archery tournaments
Q: How many students are on a team?
A: There are 24 students on a bullseye team, and a minimum of 12 on an IBO (3D) team. Teams will also select a few additional alternate students that can "fill in" when one of the team members isn't able to shoot at a tournament.
Q: When are the archery tournaments?
A: Most tournaments will take place on Saturdays from January through May
Q: Does the school provide transportation?
A: No, the school does not provide transportation. Transportation to and from tournaments is the responsibility of the team member and their family.
Q: Do I need to pay to shoot in tournaments?
A: There is no charge to shoot in most local tournaments. Occasionally there will be a fee (usually $10) to shoot at an optional tournament or fun shoot. The Nelsonville-York Arrowheads Archery Club pays the entry fee for anyone that shoots at the state tournament. The archer is expected to pay for shooting at Nationals (usually $35 for bullseye and $35 for 3D)
Q: How does the team scoring work?
A: For bullseye, the top 12 team scores (including 4 boys and 4 girls) are added together to find the team score. NASP requires that a minimum of 4 boy and 4 girls scores are included in the team score. This means that occasionally a score in the top 12 will have to be dropped to pick up a score to meet the NASP requirement. For IBO (3D), the top 6 scores (including 2 boys and 2 girls) are totaled.
Q: I see that some tournaments are far away. Do team members have to attend these tournaments?
A: Students on the team are expected to attend both the state tournament (in Columbus) and the National tournament in Louisville. The NASP Championship tournament in Louisville and IBO worlds in Pennsylvania are optional.
Q: Why aren't we attending as many tournaments as we have in previous years?
A: The Appalachian Archery Conference has been split into Northern and Southern Divisions. Nelsonville is in the Northern Division with Waynedale, Philo, Granville, Fairfield Christian, and Logan. Due to this, we do not get priority registration for Southern Division schools, and can not guarantee being able to secure flight times for all teams.
